Hey Steve,
Regarding your letter:
> I'm looking to create a vine which grows from a single branch to
> multiple branches/leaves/grapes.
<snip>
If don't need to get up close you may try usinging an animated color and clip
map on a flat polygon. You can even clone the polygon and vary the size and
position to geive the illusion of thick vine growth.
If on the other hand you wish to render the vine up close and personal you could
create the different branches, leaves and grapes in Modeler and export them as
seperate objects into Layout. Once in Layout use parenting to set up a hierarchy
for the various branches, leaves and grapes. Move each object's Pivot Point so
it lines up with the object's stem base or the point from which it grows. Create
and position bones for each object - except maybe the grapes since they probably
don't change shape during growth. Create a keyframe for all of your grapevine
objects and bones on the first AND LAST frame of their growth then go back to
frame 0 and scale the objects down to a desired growth start size. Now you can
go to various frames throughout the animation, set keys and alter object size
and bone position to get the effect you desire.
I hope that made since,
paul
